The dangers of losing weight by the Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition (KEN) diet ascribed by the British Dietetic Association (BDA) as the “starvation” diet is my wake up to madness this morning. The dangers include the feeding tube becoming dislodged and sending food down to your lungs as well as severely damaging your kidneys from the extreme protein formula used.
The fear here is that this new extreme diet is being offered to people who aren’t even ill or morbidly obese. Rather to unsuspecting individuals that want to ‘fit into’ a new body in 10 days and have some cash to burn. Reports in America have commented on what they have termed, The Bridal Hunger Games derived from this form of crash dieting. Like many other crash diets that more than likely set you up to fail, the results are short lived and what seems to lose the most weight in these instances are your mind and your bank account.
Independent nutritionist Ian Marber says, “This is probably the most extreme diet I’ve ever encountered. It’s a terrible indictment of the times we live in that food is such an enemy that people want to do this.”
